Chamberlain College of Nursing is launching a strong and historic foundation of 120 years of preparing compassionate, knowledgeable and clinical graduates. Formerly known as Deaconess College of Nursing, the new name of the College of Nursing Chamberlain is powered by the intelligence of a progressive and comprehensive program in nursing. Founded in 1889, the school changed from a diploma school of nursing in a school of nursing, and offering both ASN BSN degrees. In March 2005, DeVry Inc. acquired Deaconess. A term of the purchase agreement is that the use DeVry Deaconess Name will expire at the September 30, 2006, thus requiring a new name. The new name Chamberlain illustrates the strength and solid historical basis of Deaconess, while positioning the school for future growth. Chaumberlein derived from the Middle English word which means chief butler, the name also alludes to the role of the nurse as manager and coordinator of patient care.

Chamberlain College of Nursing is recognized by the Higher Education Commission of the North Central Association www.ncahlc.org one of six U.S. regional accreditation of colleges and universities at the institutional level. The Jacksonville campus is waiting for approval. Associates and bachelor programs in nursing to Columbus and the campus of St. Louis are accredited by the National League for the accreditation of the Commission on Nursing (NLNAC). The Bachelor of Nursing in Addison, Columbus and Phoenix, and the campus of Saint Louis is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Education in Nursing (CCNE). Accreditation provides assurance to citizens and students that the quality standards were met. Program availability varies by location.
