The State of Massachusetts, also known as Commonwealth of Massachusetts is located northeast of the United States, a few miles from the border with Canada in North America. Its name comes from a local indigenous voice that means "large hill place" and historically was part of the original 13 colonies that rebelled against the United Kingdom in the War of Independence of the United States. The state is famous internationally for the quality of private universities, among which the University of Harvard and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
