Indiana is an American State which was admitted to the Union on 19th number. Indiana's state parks and recreation areas, encompassing 178,000 acres, attracted 19,674,000 visitors in 2005, while its national park service areas received 2,190,492 recreation visits in 2006. The most notable state park is Brown County near Nashville. The state also contains 15 fish and wildlife refuges, which comprise 75,200 acres and include Pigeon River, near Howe, and Willow Slough at Morocco. Other natural attractions are the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore on Lake Michigan, and Cataract Falls near Cloverdale. The reconstructed village of New Harmony, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Museum, and the George Rogers Clark National Historic Park, at Vincennes, are also popular with tourists. Hunting and fishing are favourite outdoor pastimes.

Indiana is a diverse state with a handful of large urban centers, a number of small industrial cities and many small towns. The state's name means Indian lands or just land of Indians. The name dates back to 1768, at least, the Land Company of Indiana, and was first used by the Congress when Indiana Territory was created, when the territory of the UNCED, the Indian lands.
