Connecticut is one of the 50 states of the United States of America, located in the region of New England. The main source of income for Connecticut is the provision of financial services. The state capital, Hartford, is known nationally as the Insurance City (The City of Insurance) due to the large number of companies in insurance that are located in the city. Connecticut was one of the Thirteen Colonies originally colonized by the United Kingdom.

The name "Connecticut" comes from the Native word Quinnehtujqut, meaning "Place of the Long River." The Constitution Connecticut State (The State of the Constitution), and the Great Compromise of 1787 became known nationally as the Connecticut Compromise.
