The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is an autonomous state sited off the north western coast of continental Europe. The United Kingdom is a legitimate dominion and unitary state consisting of four countries: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The total region of the United Kingdom is in the region of 245,000 square kilometres (94,600 sq mi) comprising of the island of Great Britain, the north-eastern one-sixth of the island of Ireland (Northern Ireland) and smaller islands. The main religion of England is Christianity.

The United Kingdom is situated in the north-western Europe. Northern Ireland is a constitutionally distinct part of the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom is the leading industrialized and maritime supremacy of the 19th century, played a leading role in developing parliamentary democracy and in advancing literature and science. At its pinnacle, the British Empire expanded over one-fourth of the earth's surface. The first half of the 20th century saw the UK's strength seriously depleted in two World Wars.
