Uttaradit is one of the northern provinces of Thailand. Adjacent provinces are Phitsanulok, Phrae, Nan and Sukhothai. To the east it boundaries Xaignabouli of Laos. In the Sukhothai era some town states (Mueang) subjectto the monarch were established in the locality of the up towards date province. Mueang Fang was within up towards date day Mueang Uttaradit locality, Mueng Thung Yang within Laplae, and Mueang Ta Chuchok within Tron district. Uttaradit is located in the valley of the Nan River.

Uttaradit is the title of the province located in the northern part of Thailand. Uttaradit processes to the northern setting down, as it was previously a sell center onto the Nan river. During the Ayutthaya kingdom, Mueang Phichai was one of the 16 major Mueang of the Thai kingdom. In the reign of King Naresuan, the leader of Phichai rebelled, connected by the leader of Sawankhalok. Their revolt was stifled and the population of both towns were compelled to move south towards Phitsanulok.
