Udon Thani is one of the north-eastern provinces of Thailand. Neighboring provinces are (from northern clockwise) Nong Khai, Sakon Nakhon, Kalasin, Khon Kaen, Nong Bua Lamphu and Loei.Udon Thani former assessed its title in the Bangkok era's annals when Anuwong arranged an uprising and marched the Laotians' armies to Nakhon Ratchasrima throughout 1826 towards 1828. Met with fierce opposition from the localized armies directed by Lady Mo, wife towards Nakhon Ratchasrima Governor, Anuwong was compelled to move the armies back towards Nongbua Lampoo, the town close towards the present-day Udon Thani.

Udon Thani Province is established in the heart of the Khorat Plateau between the provinces of Khon Kaen towards its south, and Nong Khai towards its north. The town of Udon Thani, its capital, is assisted by the trains line that proceeds northeast from Saraburi across Nakhon Ratchasima (Khorat) and Khon Kaen towards the boundary of Laos onto the outskirts of Nong Khai city.
