Satun is a province of Thailand. Neighboring provinces of Satun are (from northern clockwise) Trang, Phatthalung and Songkhla. To the south it boundaries Perlis of Malaysia. The title Satun is a Thai corruption of its initial Malay title, Setul (santol, or untamed mangosteen tree). The province is established on the Malay Peninsula, onto the seashore of the Andaman Sea. It is divided from Songkhla Province via the Nakhon Si Thammarat hill range, and from Malaysia via the Sankalakhiri mountains.

Satun is a well renowned province of Thailand. The Ko Tarutao and Ko Phetra marine nationwide reserves are portion of the province. Close towards the boundary with Malaysia is the Thale Ban National Park, a large-scale freshwater flood locality Until 1813 Satun was a locality of the Malay state of Kedah, otherwise renowned as Mukim Setul within Malay. After that designated day it was governed via a administrator dispatched from Nakhon Si Thammarat. In 1897 Satun became portion of Monthon Saiburi (now Kedah), which within 1909 was split up between British Empire and Siam as portion of Anglo-Siamese Treaty of 1909.
