Phayao is one of the provinces of Thailand situated in the northern part of the country. The province borders the provinces of Lampang, Chiang Rai, Nan, and Phrae. In the north-east borders Laos. If we recall the history of the province, we come to know that in 1096 it was a small town. In 1897 the province became a part of Chiang Rai province but in 1977 this part was separated from Chiang Rai province and was given the status of an independent province.

Phayao is the province of Thailand. History notifies us that in 1096 it was a small city-state kingdom. In the thirteenth century acquired great importance, and in 1338 captured the King of Lanna and Phayao did part of the kingdom. During the government of Myanmar and Lanna Phayao was abandoned in 1897 became part of Chiang Rai. On August 28, 1977 was separated from Chiang Rai and became an autonomous province. The capital of the province is Phayao city.
