Nong Khai is a province in north-eastern. It is situated on the Mekong River and is the venue for the first in Thailand and Laos across the bridge of Friendship Laos. The on Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge is largely funded through gifts to the Lao Government's Australian Keating Labor Government. This Thai is the gateway to Laos' capital Vientiane, 25 miles up the river, on the northern shore opposite the Thai town of Sri Chiang Mai. At the time of its construction, the space for the rail track was installed in the center of the roadway in the direction of Laos.
