Narathiwat is a province in southern Thailand. The province shares border with Malaysia. The majority of the population is of Malaysian origin. Chinese and Thai are a minority. On religious basis the majority of the population in the province is Muslim. Buddhists are a minority. According to a survey conducted by Thai government in 2005 Muslims are 82% of the whole population of the province and 17.9% are Buddhists. More than 80% of the population speaks Malay language.
Narathiwat Province is located in the southern region of Thailand. Narathiwat is one of Changwat or provinces of Thailand. It is surrounded by the provinces of Yala and Pattani and Kelantan in Malaysia, which it shares identity malaise. Narathiwat, as four other southern provinces, is predominantly Muslim. 82% of the population is Muslim and 17.9% are Buddhists. 80.4% speak Malay similar to Kelantan. Narathiwat is divided into 13 districts, subdivided into 77 communes and 551 villages.
