Nakhon Phanom is one of the north-eastern provinces of Thailand. Neighboring provinces of Nakhon Phanom include Mukdahan, Nong Khai and Sakon Nakhon. To the north-eastern side of the province it touches Khammouan of Laos. The province is situated in the valley of the river Mekong and most of its part is plain. In the northern part of Nakhon Phanom has more mountainous character, and forest-covered plains. The main river of Nakhon Phanom province is the River of Songkhram River at the same time Oun river irrigates a few parts of the province.

Nakhon Phanom is the province of Thailand. The provincial capital, the Nakhon Phanom city, is established accurately at the banks of the Mekong. Phu Lang Ka National Park wrappings 50 km² of timber plantations and high enclosed land, and includes in the waterfalls Tat Kham and Tat Pho as its most well likeable attractions. Also blossoms like the Lady Slipper Orchid and mixed wildlife is divulged in the park. Songkhram and lesser Oun are the greatest rivers of the province.
