Mukdahan (also Mukdaharn) is one of the north-eastern provinces of Thailand. Neighboring provinces of the province include (arranged clockwise from north) Amnat Charoen, Yasothon, Roi Et, Kalasin, Sakon Nakhon and Nakhon Phanom. In the eastern side the boundaries of the province touch the Mekong River, over which lies Savannakhet Province of Laos. The province is established in the Mekong valley. In the west of the province are the Phu Phan hills, which are enclosed with broad forests.
Mukdahan, the province of Thailand has very wealthy tradition. Lord Chandrasuriyawongse and his followers founded a house at Baan Luang Phonsim beside the Thad Ing Hang Stupa along the deserted banks of the Mekong River within Laos.
