Lamphun (Thai: ลำพูน) is one of the northern provinces of Thailand. Neighboring provinces (from north clockwise) Chiang Mai, Lampang and so. Lamphun is located in the valley of the Ping river, surrounded by mountain ranges. It is about 670 km from Bangkok and only 26 km from Chiang Mai. The non-municipal areas is controlled by 45 Tambon Administration Organizations (TAO) and 2 Tambon councils. Lamphun has a rich history and is facing many invaders from different fields in history.

Under its old name Haripunchai, Lamphun was the northernmost city in the kingdom on Monday Dvaravati period and the last to refer to the Thai. At the end of 12 century it came under siege from the Khmer, but did not fall. However, in 1281, King Mengrai of Lannathai, finally captured the city and made it part of his kingdom. Following the expansion of Burma in the sixteenth century, Lamphun, also in accordance with rule Burma for two centuries. In the eighteenth century, with the rise of the Thonburi and Bangkok to Burma, local leaders Lampang agreed to be their allies.
