South Gyeongsang (Gyeongsangnam-do in Korean) is a province in southeastern South Korea. Its capital is Changwon. Until 1895, the area covered by South Gyeongsang was part of the Gyeongsang Province, one of eight in Korea during the Joseon Dynasty. In 1895, the southern Gyeongsang became two districts to the west, Jinju, and east, Dongnae (now Busan) in 1896, the two districts merged to form South Gyeongsang. Previously, the provincial capital was Jinju, but moved to Pusan in 1925, until 1963, when the city was separated from the province to become one of the special cities of Korea, since 1995.
South Gyeongsang is the province of South Korea. Since 1983, the provincial capital is Changwon. The province is part of the region of Yeongnam. Bordered to the east by the Sea of Japan on the north by the North Gyeongsang Province, on the west by the provinces of North Jeolla and South Jeolla, and to the south by the Straits of Korea. Most part of the province is adjacent to the Nakdong River which flows through the middle of the province.
