Az Zahirah is one of the regions (mintaqah) of Oman. Adh Dhahirah region consists of three wilayate: IBRI and Yanqul Dank. Until October 2006, two other wilayate of the region: Al Buraymi and Mahdah. In October 2006 a new governor, Al Buraymi was created from these two wilayate, and a third Wilayat Al Sinaihah was created from parts of the two.

Adh Dhahirah the economy continues to rely heavily on gas and oil, which represents approximately 45% of gross domestic product (GDP) and over 75% of revenue in 2007. However, significant progress towards diversification has been achieved in recent years, as oil production has declined slowly since 2001. The oil has been produced commercially in 1967, but it was not until 1970 when Sultan Qaboos bin Said came to power, that revenue is invested in economic development.
