Mazandaran is a Caspian province within the northern of Iran. Located onto the south seaboard frontier of the Caspian Sea, it is bordered clockwise via the Golestan, Semnan and Tehran provinces (together forming Greater Mazandaran, shared from Mazandaran respectively within 1997, 1976 and 1960.). The provinces of Qazvin and Gilan lie towards the west. The varied environment of the province aspects plains, prairies, timber plantations and jungles extending from the sandy sandy coastlines of the Caspian Sea towards the rugged and snowcapped Elburz sierra, encompassing Mount Damavand, the biggest top and volcano within the Middle East and Western Asia.
Mazandaran is one of the most densely populated provinces within Iran and has varied natural assets, notably wide tanks of oil and natural gas. The province's five biggest shires are Sari, Behshahr, Babol, Amol and Qaemshahr.
