The Nievre department belongs to the Burgundy region. It is located in the centre of France, and has borders with Yonne, Côte d’Or, Saône-et-Loire, Allier (Auvergne), Cher and Loiret ( Centre region ). Nievre is the governmental centre of the subdivision, the sub centres being Château-Chinon, Clamecy and Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire. There are manufacturers of farming equipments and hardware, potteries, producers of porcelain, and faience (at Nevers), tile-works, chemical works, paper-mills and saw-mills, as well as numerous tanneries, boot and shoe factories, cask manufactories and oil works
Nièvre is located in central France and is part of the current region of Burgundy. The Nivernais and Charolais are the chief breeds of livestock and the rearing of sheep and draught-horses is also of importance. Vines are grown-up in the valley of the Loire and in the neighborhood of Clamecy and the white wines of Pouilly sur Loire- (a pretty river town) are widely known.
