Moselle is one of the four departments of the Lorraine region, the other ones being Meurthe et Moselle, Meuse and Vosges. It is situated in the north eastern fraction of France, and its past and historical heritage have made its identity and personality so strong. The administrative centre of the department is in Metz, which is also the administrative centre of the region. The department gathers around 1,037,000 residents, called the Mosellans.
Moselle is a department in the east of France named after the Moselle River. Moselle is one of the unusual 83 departments formed all through the French Revolution on March 4, 1790. It was formed from the ex-province of Lorraine. Moselle is fraction of the existing region of Lorraine and is bounded by the French departments of Meurthe-et-Moselle and Bas-Rhin, as well as Germany states of Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate and Luxembourg in the north. The residents of the department are called Mosellans in French.
