Lot-et-Garonne is a subdivision in the southwest of France whose name is derived from the names of the Lot and Garonne rivers. Lot-et-Garonne is one of the unusual 83 departments formed throughout the French Revolution on March 4, 1790. It was formed from part of the regions of Guyenne and Gascogne. Some of the unusual south-eastern cantons were separated from it in 1808 to form the subdivision of Tarn-et-Garonne. Lot-et-Garonne is division of the recent region of Aquitaine and is bounded by the departments of Tarn-et-Garonne, Gers, Lot, Gironde, Landes, and Dordogne.
