Loir-Et-Cher is a department of central France, formed in 1790 from a small portion of Touraine, the Perche, but chiefly from the Dunois, Vendomois and Blesois, portions of Orleanais. The name of the department is taken from the nameof its Loir and the Cher by which it is traversed in the north and south respectively. The Loir arises on the eastern boundary of the Perche and joins the Maine following a course of 195 m; the Cher arises at the Central Plateau near to Aubusson, and reaches the Loire after a course of 219 m.
Loir-et-Cher is a department at north-central France whose name is derived from the name the rivers Loir and Cher. Loir-et-Cher is among the unusual 83 subdivisions formed all through the French Revolution on 4th March, 1790. It was created from fraction of the ex- provinces of Orléanais and Touraine. Loir-et-Cher is a fraction of the existing region of Centre (Val de Loire) and is surrounded by the departments of Loiret, Cher, Indre, Indre-et-Loire, Eure-et-Loir, and Sarthe. The residents of the department are called Loir-et-Chériens.
