Jura is a subdivision in the east of France named after the Jura Mountains. Jura is among four subdivisions of the Franche-Comté region and is bounded by the French departments of Doubs, Haute-Saône, Côte-d'Or, Saône-et-Loire, and Ain, as well as the Swiss canton of Vaud on the east. The Jura Mountains are forested and undulating, not craggy and rocky like the Alps. Many lagoons can be discovered all through the Jura the biggest natural lagoon being Lac de Chalain, assessing 3km long and 1km wide. Lac de Vouglans was formed after the construction of a hydro-electric dam. It is among the biggest man-made lagoons in France.
Jura is a department in the east of France named after the Jura Mountains. It is surrounded at northern side by the department of Haute-Saone, N.E. by Doubs, E. by Switzerland, S. by Ain, and W. by Cote d'Or and Saoneet-Loire. The estimated population is 257,725 the Area is 1951 sq. m. Jura comprises four discrete zones with a general direction from northern areas to southern areas. In the S.E. lie high eastern chains of the mid Jura, having the Cret Pela (4915 ft.) which is the uppermost point in the department. More to the west there is a sequence of forest clad plateaus delimited on the E. by the river Ain.
