The Haute-Garonne department is situated in the South of France. It is one of the 8 departments of the Midi-Pyrenees district. Haute-Garonne is not a chronological area of France. Indeed, it is an administrative division composed of different areas of both the Languedoc-Roussillon district and Gascony, a former French district. The department is residence to more than one million residents. The towns of Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges, Rieux-Volvestre and Saint-Sulpice-sur-Lèze are amongst the most beautiful towns of France.
The Haute-Garonne department is in the Midi-Pyrenees district of southern France.
The district covers a diverse landscape, from the hilly districts to the north, bordering Gascony, to the mountainous Pyrenees and the Spanish border to the south of the department. Much of the department is also occupied by forests. It is this innate countryside that is the foremost attraction, with sufficient opportunities to enjoy exploring the environment, from hiking in the summer to skiing in the Pyrenean Mountains in winter.
