Cher is a department in the center of France. The department is part of the existing region of Centre (Val de Loire). It is bounded by the departments of Indre, Loir-et-Cher, Loiret, Nièvre, Allier, and Creuse. The inhabitants of the subdivision are called Berrichons from the previous province of Berry. The french lingo is spoken conventionally throughout the department. The capital city of Cher is Bourges in Celtic times Bourges was known as Avaricum which was the capital of the Bituriges
