Cantal is a department in south-central France. It is named following the Cantal Peak range, a grouping of extinct, gnarled volcanic peaks, which covers much of the department. The department is part of the current region of Auvergne and is bounded by the department of Puy-de-Dôme, Lozère, Corrèze, Aveyron, Lot, and Haute-Loire. The department of the Cantal has dissimilar types of climates according to the geographical position. The west is well irrigated due to abundant precipitations coming from the Atlantic. The temperatures exhibited in Cantal are generally smooth, whereas the East is much drier and colder. As a fact there is plentiful rain on the central area.
