Bouches-du-Rhône is a southern French department in the named after the mouth of the Rhône River. The department is part of the current region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. It is bordered by the departments of Gard on the west, Vaucluse on the north, and Var on the east, and by the Mediterranean Sea on the south. This department is one of immense contrasts. Paul Cézanne painted numerous representations of the Mont Sainte-Victoire. Vincent van Gogh used much of his life in Arles, picture several scenes in the area.

The Bouches-du-Rhône is a department in the French province Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. To the south-west lies the flat, swamp area of the Camargue, best recognized for its wildlife and Camargue horses, and commonly explored from the coastal town of Saintes Maries de la Mer. On the east coastline of the Camargue is the dock town of Martigues. The attractive drama reaches its peak in the far south-east of the Bouches-du-Rhone department with the impressive coast around the port town of Cassis, which includes both the stunning Calanques of Marseille and the coast road to the west, called the Route des Cretes.
