Ain is a department of France that is denoted after the Ain River on the eastern edge of France. Ain has an outstanding transport network (TGV, highways) and benefits from the proximity to the international airports of Lyon and Geneva. Ain is a department of geographic contrasts at the north the plain of Breese is surrounded by the river Saone and rises slightly towards the north-east. At the south-east the region of the Domes has more than a thousand ponds and lakes. At the east the mountain chain of the southern Jury overlooks the plain of Breese.

The department of Ain is a French department whose name comes from the river Ain. The Ain department was one of the 83 departments created in the French Revolution pursuant to the Act of 22 December 1789, from four provinces: Breese, the Bogey, the Domes, le pays de GEC and part of the province of Franc-Leona’s. The Ain has no large city, except Bourg-en-Breese, but a dense network of towns and small cities. Tourism is however hampered by the lack of image of the department in the field of leisure activities.
