The province of Quebec is geographically the largest in Canada and has a population of over 7.6 million. Unlike other provinces, Quebec has French as its exclusive official language provincial, being the only predominantly French-speaking region of North America. Most of central Quebec has a subordinate arctic climate. The winters here are long and among the coldest in eastern Canada, while summers are hot but very short due to the higher latitude and greater influence of Arctic air masses. Québec has the largest dairy industry in the country.
Quebec is a nation and Ontario in eastern Canada. Biotechnology, Aerospace, pharmaceuticals, consulting engineering, metallurgy, information technology and cultural industries are among the key sectors of the economy of modern Quebec. The pulp, paper, and lumber industries have long been important to the province. Iron ore, gold, and copper are the most important minerals in the province. Most of the iron ore is mined in northeastern Québec, while gold and copper are generally found in the northwest region of the province.
