The Northwest Territories is a federal territory of Canada. Located in northern Canada, the territory borders Canada's two other territories, Yukon to the west and Nunavut to the east, and three provinces: British Columbia to the southwest, Alberta and Saskatchewan to the south. The Northwest Territories is expanded over an area of 1,300,000 square kilometres so the area exhibits a major climate variation from southern part to northern part. The southern fraction of the Territory exhibits a subarctic type weather while the north has a polar climate. The NWT's geographical resources include gold, diamonds, natural gas and petroleum. In Northwest Territories there are three diamond cutting and polishing factories, two of which generate government certified diamonds.

The vast amount of natural wealth and small populace give the Northwest Territories with the highest GDP per capita of all provinces and territories of Canada.
