Australian Capital Territory, the ACT (English Australian Capital Territory, ACT) - Territory of Australia, which includes the city of Canberra, as well as a small agricultural area and National Park Namadzhi. The population of approximately 339.9 thousand people (7th place, the data in 2007). Draft of new metropolitan area appeared at the end of the XIX century, in the Australian Education Union. In 1901, was signed by the Australian constitution, under which New South Wales had to pass a small plot of land in the south of the new Federal Government.
Australian Capital Territory was transferred to the State in 1911, and in 1913 started the construction of Canberra. The federal government officially moved from Melbourne to Canberra, only 9 May, 1927, when the building of Parliament. The first time of divisions and departments have continued to remain in Melbourne, but later gradually moved to the new capital.
The area was originally known as the Federal Capital Territory (TFS), in 1938, was officially renamed the Australian Capital Territory.
