The New England Culinary Institute (NECI) is a professionally oriented, culinary college. It is located in Montpelier, Vermont. It was founded on June 15, 1980 by Fran Voigt and John Dranow. The initial NECI class, conducted by Chef Michel LeBorgne, had only seven students. A second campus was founded in Essex, Vermont on August 1989. It remained operational till August 2009. It is extremely renowned as a principal culinary university in the United States.
New England Culinary Institute's course is founded on "learning by doing," involving students in real kitchen conditions and maintaining a small teacher/chef to student ratio in contrast to other American culinary schools. As a consequence, the institute runs a number of restaurants in Montpelier and Essex Junction.
Students gain knowledge under the direction of Master Chef Instructors, and are requisite to execute at a high level. Because of New England Culinary Institute's high standard of excellence, employers demand for the school's graduates is very strong.c
